Some of you may have heard the term/slang: slow yo roll. This phrase popped into my head this morning as I found myself taking a detour from traveling on a very congested I-70 heading west.
The traffic was backed up to 23rd Street and seeing the brake lights and stand-still traffic, I decided to take the side roads to get to work.
Unfortunately, as I traveled along Truman Road, I could see that the slow traffic had cleared up just around the bend. It was now moving steadily while I was forced to stand still at stop lights.
What was the lesson? Just because your dreams or goals may be at a standstill, doesn’t mean you should take a detour. Sometimes, that slow pace is to give you time to plan for the next phase or to appreciate what you have already accomplished. It may be that there are issues ahead and God wants you to miss getting entangled at a junction of where he is leading you.
Detours have their place, but not every delay requires a detour. Instead, remind yourself of the words found in Ecclesiastes 9:11 – I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
